The Miracle of Franco: 9 Years Waiting for a Transplant

Hello, my name is Marisela. I am a mother of 3 boys, the youngest being Franco. He is a 9-year-old sweet boy full of love, joy, and a strong will to live. When he was born, the hospital needed to perform surgery on his intestine, which resulted in his intestine catching an infection due to malpractice. Since then, they have done 12 surgeries (1 per month) in an attempt to cut off infected parts of the intestine, but in the end, he was left with close to nothing of his intestine remaining. They then sent him home with a feeding tube to his stomach and a TPN line to his main vein near his heart for his nutrition and vitamins to keep him alive for the following 8 years. Due to the long period of time waiting for the transplant, his kidney now has stage three damage to it. He also has other complications (hypertension, gastritis, and anemia).

After 9 long years we got news from the hospital that he will be receiving a transplant today (03/24/25) and will spend about 3 months at the hospital recovering, of which I will be here 24/7, meaning I cannot work. This will help me with expenses I will undertake from this whole process. Any amount really helps the family out and is very much appreciated. Hola, me llamo Marisela. Soy madre de tres niños, el menor de los cuales es Franco. Es un niño dulce de 9 años, lleno de amor, alegría y con muchas ganas de vivir. Al nacer, el hospital tuvo que operarle el intestino, lo que provocó una infección intestinal debido a la mala práctica del hospital. Desde entonces, le han realizado 12 cirugías (una al mes) para intentar extirpar las partes infectadas, pero al final, no le quedó prácticamente nada del intestino. Lo enviaron a casa con una sonda de alimentación en el estómago y una vía de nutrición parenteral total (NPT) en la vena principal cerca del corazón para que reciba nutrición y vitaminas durante los siguientes 8 años. Debido al largo tiempo de espera para el trasplante, su riñón presenta daño en etapa tres. También presenta otras complicaciones (hipertensión, gastritis y anemia). 

 Después de 9 largos años, recibimos la noticia del hospital de que recibirá un trasplante hoy (24/03/25) y pasará unos 3 meses en el hospital recuperándose, de los cuales estaré aquí las 24 horas, lo que significa que no podré trabajar. Esto me ayudará con los gastos que asumiré durante todo este proceso. Cualquier donación es una gran ayuda para la familia y se agradece mucho.
