“I believe fate led me to this project. If I had not followed my mother to the Westonka Historical Society that fateful morning 4 years ago and met Ron, I do not know what I would be doing now. I remember entering the museum, and my whole childhood came back to me in an instant. I was back in the sandbox with my brother and neighborhood friends. I met Ron Pauly, and he told me his story and of the men and women who worked at the original Tonka company. I then realized what a huge impact they all had on my childhood and my development to a functioning adult. I then contemplated their impact on MILLIONS of other kids who grew up in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. I have yet to meet someone who grew up in those eras that did not play with Tonka toys. This film is a love letter to the men and women of The Tonka Company of Mound Minnesota. Because of their values, their generation worked hard, had pride in what they did, and that is embodied in every Tonka Toy. These toys still bring so much happiness and joy to children (young and old) around the world. Tonka toys have been passed down to the current generation and offer the older generation golden memories of a cherished time in their lives. This movie will also explore the themes of what happened to manufacturing in the USA, quality toy design and positive childhood development through interviews with industry experts. The Mighty Tonka Company Movie has taken over our lives in the past 4 years. The paint, rust and sand get in your blood.
