Hi my name is Keira Johnson, I am setting up a charity in remembrance of my little boy Maximus Johnson who passed away from a brain tumour 6 months ago.

Maximus was 8 and a half years old and was extremely courageous throughout his short time in our world. He was the most caring and kindest little boy, always putting everyone else first and making sure everyone was happy. Even when he was in hospital and seeing other children in distress, he would want to help. Anyone lucky enough to have met him and had him be a part of their lives, would all say the same.

As a family we were very fortunate to have a large community around us to help throughout Max’s diagnosis and beyond and we now want to carry helping others in his name.

We would like this charity to help families with children who are diagnosed with cancer, access funds to help pay bills when a child is first diagnosed. As unfortunately if you are working you don’t get any help from the government for months, and the last thing a family should have to worry about is paying bills, when they have just been given the worst news imaginable and all they want is to be by their child’s side.

We also want to help and offer advice to families who need to look for treatment abroad, like we did with Maximus when we were told that we had exhausted all treatments available on the NHS.

And finally we also want to help support the only charity in the UK that is solely looking for a cure for the brain cancer that Maximus had which is called “Fighting Ependymoma - The Chris Bramhall Childrens Brain Tumour Research Charity”, so that hopefully one day families and children diagnosed with an Ependymoma, will not hear the words, “incurable”
