The Michigan Shaws College Fund
Hi - this is my twin brother, Phil, with his lovely wife Ann. On 26th July, he had a normal day working from home, had lunch with Ann, saw the kids, spoke to his eldest son on the phone. Then without any warning, he passed away.
We don't yet know the cause of death. We weren't aware of any illness and he had no known long term health problems.
Everything which followed was - and still is - incredibly hard. To try to help put some pieces back together, I'm fundraising to contribute to Phil's kids college fund. This is a deeply personal objective: I aim - with the help, kindness and generosity of people out there, to contribute to something positive for Phil and Ann's children's future.
Phil's favourite thing, beyond Ann and the kids, was cycling. So, I've decided to cycle the equivalent distance between my house in the UK and Phil's in Michigan, a distance of 3,612 miles or 5,813km. I aim to finish this challenge by November 25th, which is both Thanksgiving in the USA and our shared birthday. This will be tracked in Strava (of course...).
I'll be covering the miles on road, gravel and when needed on a trainer in the back garden. The objective is simply to do enough pedalling to cover the distance one way or another. Any support which can be provided - even if it's just encouragement - would be a step towards fixing a lot of broken hearts.
