The Mercy Seat is a contemporary crime drama in which the fight against organised crime and human trafficking exposes the moral and psychological cost of policing, as detectives cross legal lines to save those trapped in exploitation. A dark, high-tension crime thriller in the vein of Slow Horses and Luther, the series follows DS Alex Ashcroft as he wages a morally uncompromising war on human trafficking networks while battling his own physical and psychological collapse. As organised crime, systemic failure, and a rising serial killer close in, Ashcroft’s unorthodox and brutal methods blur the boundary between justice and obsession, leading to a spiral of self-reflection and destruction, exposing the terrifying truth that the line between hunter and monster is dangerously thin. Hi , my name is Jon Laight and I'm an actor, director and producer based in the West Midlands and this is my Go Fund Me fundraising page for my script to screen project, The Mercy Seat.

This project is going to cast, film and produce a three scene pilot that will be a multifunctional platform for me and the entire team to showcase acting and film production talent and hopefully pick up a commission for the show as a TV series.

Director of Photography and 1st Assistant Director will be George S Evans. George has directed and produced two award winning films, English Rose and Meeting Point so brings with him a huge amount of talent and experience to make this series feel gritty, passionate and authentic in every way.

The GoFundMe campaign will fund all the different elements of making The Mercy Seat's first three scenes of the pilot episode. It will go towards equipment, props, recruiting the cast and crew as well as any post production costs including original music, sfx and being able to help any of the team with travel costs. We would also be looking to cover the costs of promo and sharing it with TV companies who may be interested in commissioning the series or a full pilot.
