McCorkell Family: Support For Kidney Transplant

Donation protected
In order to be completely transparent, all funds earned here will go directly to the Family as the beneficiary and funds will not have any association with Warman Happy Tots Preschool. We try to foster the spirit of Community in our Preschool and a member of our community is needing help.

We are running a Go Fund me for The McCorkell family. This family is an important part of our preschool community. I have had the privilege of teaching all three of their children. Logan is into his final year in our program. He is a strong and resilient fighter.

I’m attaching Logan’s story in Sarah’s words (Mom). This Go Fund Me will not only raise necessary financial support for their family during hospital stays and when they stay in Edmonton for the transplant procedure, but it also raises awareness to a very rare disease and a strong and resilient family surviving it.

Please consider donating if you have the means to do so.

Read Logan’s story here:

“Logan woke up swollen on Christmas Eve 2020, so we rushed him to Emergency. He was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome Kidney Diseases and we were told we could manage It at home with steroids. We were told he would outgrow it by the time he was 10. In March 2021, he went for a biopsy because he relapsed while on steroids.
We got the phone call that he had a rare disease called FSGS (Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis) and this disease had no cure. All we could do was keep him comfortable and wait for kidney failure.

Logan and I had a permanent room at the hospital in 2021 for a few months so he could get albumin infusions to keep his swelling to a minimum. In March 2022, we removed his right kidney and we spent 2 months in day medicine twice a week to receive infusions and keep him comfortable. In May 2022, we got the news that Logan was officially in kidney failure. In 1 week, his kidney went from 70% to 10%. The next day he was in the surgery to get a PD catheter to start dialysis.

Feb 2023: We tried a procedure to kill off the rest of the kidney due to him still peeing protein and causing swelling. Kids who are swollen are too dangerous to perform transplants on. Luckily, it was successful.

July 2023: Logan quit eating and we had to get a G-Tube installed. Logan ended up coding during the surgery, but the doctors didn’t really know why.

August 2023: Logan had critically low bp and had to be rushed in by ambulance. That’s when we found out he was officially diagnosed with Cardiorenal Syndrome, also known as heart failure. We spent 10 days in the hospital so he could be monitored while we started 3 heart meds.

February 2024: Logan was admitted for stroke potential bp.

Logan has been in and out of the hospital due to illness, infections, or BP issues.

We will be moving to Edmonton for up to 3 months when kidney transplant time comes. We are hoping to be listed by the end of Spring.”

Logan spent our Christmas party in the hospital this year. Laura and I were able to visit with him, but I know he was sad and missed his friends.

We are so grateful to have Logan in our lives! Thank you for considering this fundraiser and supporting this local family!
