Hey everyone, I'm Otto. Some know me by my first name Wesley, but either name you call me doesn't change the way I train, teach and live life.
I've been doing wrestling and jiu-jitsu for roughly 7 years and during that time I have developed enough skills and experience to teach and coach the youth programs in both disciplines. I've grown so fond of some of the kids I coach and the parents that support me that I feel the same love for them that I feel for my family. They truly are my second homes and loved ones.
I coach wrestling for one reason only, to give back to the first sport I really fell in love with. So I pounced at the opportunity I got to be an volunteer assistant coach just as the season had started and loved every bit of the season. The parents of those great kids were the best part and made me want to be a long lasting part of the club. I would be coaching this season, but due to my incident that's just not possible, but I'll explain that later.
My other coaching position is at Gracie Redding, deep in Northern California. While I don't get paid to teach, I do receive a free membership to train there and love everyone there like family. The kids and parents at this gym fill me with a similar passion and again make me love them like my own family.
Now I sit here in a hospital bed putting together this account after a long, wild ride in 2 different hospitals and a crazy week that lead to an ambulance ride and surgery.
It came about 25 days or so ago. Johnny, a person I coach the kids with, and myself were fresh off a pair of tournament wins and feeling like we had just started off the month of October right. Just a few days after said tournament I developed neck pain that got worse and worse as time went on. About a week and a half in I wake up one morning and can't move my legs. This kicked off what would be a long and enduring journey for myself as I got rushed to the hospital later that night as we ran out of options. Once I arrived there (Nearly all of the trip and scans I can't remember) I was told a CAT scan was done and they immediately went into surgey.
This surgery entailed removing puss from the front and back of my C-6 vertabra, taking out a small piece of it, and getting 2 disks fused together.
Now I'm in the hospital just a few days away from discharge putting together this fund so that I can show you my story and you can see my updates I have from my long weeks here at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, and that you might be able to give back to me the way I feel I have given to others. I don't know what the extent of these bills are or will be, but from my stay here I know the concept of "cheap" doesn't exist around here. I've been blessed with a great support group and a great rehab facility. If you can't give anything it's completely understandable, but I do hope you'll share ,your campaign with others and let them know I've helped you, or your kids. Thanks for listening, hope to be back on the mats with my extended families soon.
