The Mary Lind Recovery Choir Needs Your Help!

As you may know, the Mary Lind Recovery Choir is an A.A.-based, non-denominational Gospel/Rock singing choir & live band – known in Southern California and beyond as “the Musical Ambassadors of Recovery” – which uses the joy and universal celebration of music to spread its foundational message: “Recovery Happens!”
Our members and community have overcome addiction, homelessness, incarceration, institutionalization or other significant challenges, and all have since grown his or her life back to full civic productivity, sobriety, and joy. We love each other deeply and function as a family, a fellowship, and a beacon of inspiration to all who seek recovery…and fun.
The choir is currently in the last stages of completing a full-length, professional quality CD which we have been developing and recording for the past 5+ years as time and resources have allowed. Under the guidance of our beloved and tireless Choir Director “Mama” Trish Turner, and Produced by our Musical Director and guitarist Geoff “Ziggy” Ziegler, the CD currently features 12 full songs as well as spoken word interludes of prayers, poems, and testimonies from individual members. Almost all primary basic tracking/recording has been accomplished – but much lies ahead to finalize. Pending what we achieve from fund-raising, we also plan to create at least one companion “music video” (i.e. YouTube or similar), which ideally will have professional help to create a combination film of the choir performing, interspersed with photos and video clips spanning our entire history, set to one selected track from the CD. To date, the recording effort has been entirely self-funded, largely through the blessing of a “free” home studio and some occasional dollars from our own pockets. We are now at the stage where we need to ask for help to bring this enormous labor of love to its rightful conclusion. Expenses & Goal (in order of importance and intended use):
Final editing, mixing, and mastering: 40 hours x $50/hr. = $2,000
Physical CD & booklet insert production (100-300 copies) $1,850
*Note: digital downloads will be available for primary distribution
Licensing, legal, song use rights, admin & placement $1,600
Professionally-assisted Video / Photo montage production $2,500
Misc. needs, equipment replacement, future rehearsal space $2,000
TOTAL GOAL / TARGET: $9,950
Over 20+ years, the Choir has been blessed to deliver many hundreds of live performances locally and state-wide, spanning high-profile appearances at the Ford Theater, the House of Blues, the Griffith Observatory, the L.A. Marathon, McDonald’s Gospel Fest at the Shrine Auditorium (two-time runners-up!). We have made annual appearances in Sacramento on the steps of the State Capitol as part of legislative advocacy efforts to promote government funding and public attention to the needs of programs and services serving populations struggling to overcome issues of addiction and related transformative challenges. The Choir have been yearly invited performers at beloved SoCal sobriety events including Round-Ups (notably South Bay, La Canada Flintridge, Watts, elsewhere), as well as appearing at countless parades, Veterans’ benefits, church groups, recovery celebrations, A.A. gatherings, memorial services, shelters, and many other occasions where recovering people gather to gain fellowship, hope, inspiration, and love.
Our Go Fund Me campaign seeks the above goal and specific financial purposes. We can’t yet dream that we will come even close to achieving this blessing – but any progress and assistance we are able to gain will be received with the deepest gratitude, and will go to what we believe to be a very worthy cause. We seek the chance to spread our experience, strength, and hope far beyond the live audiences and local beloved supporters we currently enjoy – to touch as many souls as possible…with God’s help (and if possible, yours).
