The Marshal Fund

Update: After two weeks of seeming to recover, Marshal was hospitalized again on January 24th after a rapid decline in his health and is once again in the emergency room.  His treatment team believes that rather than a bacterial infection, Marshal is suffering from a toxin in his liver. We are moving forward with empirically treating for a toxin, and appreciate your continued support for Marshal's treatment.

The start of 2022 was not kind to our dear Marshal, who has been in an emergency hospital this week, but we know that with full treatment, next week will be better. After much poking and prodding, and many tears, Marshal's stellar medical team has determined that he is suffering from an aggressive bacterial infection in his liver. Marshal's symptoms came crashing down rapidly the first weekend of this new year, when he became dehydrated, lethargic, and refused to eat. Monday night was spent in fear that Tuesday morning would arrive without his loving spirit with us in the room. A series of blood tests, and eventual emergency hospitalization, helped us narrow down the cause and develop a treatment plan.

We share his veterinary team's confidence that with complete treatment, Marshal will fully recover and go on to lead a happy and healthy life - a commitment we made when we adopted him in 2020. Your generous assistance ensures that Marshal can complete his treatment and undergo monitoring after his release from the ER, which will hopefully happen very soon!

With love and appreciation,
Lauren, Brendan, Chief and Marshal
