Mark's true passion was on the ball field. Mark enjoyed a 35+ year career as a MSHAA official and umpire, calling games all over the state of Michigan, Florida and Cooperstown, NY. Mark devoted countless hours to youth ball programs through Carman-Ainsworth Community Education serving as a coach, an official, an organizer and even running the concession stand. No job was beneath him. He believed in teaching the fundamentals of the game and that every child who wanted to play should have the opportunity. His proud attention to detail and commitment to professionalism was steadfast and he will live on in the memories of hundreds of T-ball, baseball, softball, basketball, and volleyball players whose games he called and teams he coached.
In honor of Mark there will be a youth softball/baseball tournament starting on July 30th and will conclude on August 1st called The Mark Gallagher Memorial Tournament. The tournament will take place in Clio. Starting in 2022, the Memorial Tournament will take place annually on the weekend of June 3rd in honor of his birthday.
The donations will go towards establishing the tournament and keeping costs of entry low enough for kids to play because Mark always thought everyone should get a chance to play.
