They say It takes a village to raise a child (or 4). Ms. Marcia was our village and over the course of her 20 years teaching at The Village School, she became part of so many families village. She was part of the community. Marcia always provided a fun, safe, healthy environment and loved our kids as her own. After The Village School closed the 2-year-old program due to Covid, we were so blessed to have her come and nanny full time. No matter how crazy the world was, Marcia was our constant. She was always a smiling face at our door at 8.30am. She was ready to love our kids as her own and not only does it take a village to raise a child, it takes a village to support that child’s parents. Marcia was our village.
Marcia was a treasured sister, mother, grandmother, friend and caretaker. She had a contagious smile. She was warm and sweet but fiercely strong and resilient. Marcia was born in Ecuador and moved to NYC at the age of 19. She was blessed with 2 daughters, Jennifer & Jenny whom she raised in NYC until they moved to FL in 1997. Marcia rarely complained and was always upbeat and optimistic. On Wednesday, Jan 6th Marcia tested positive for Covid19. She was immediately sent to the hospital due to low oxygen. One Jan 15th she was intubated, and complications led to her passing away on Feb 9th. She would have been 58 on March 3rd.
Covid frustrates our most basic human instinct…It frustrates our ability to demonstrate compassion, our capacity to be there for the people we love. As Marcia’s family grieves the sudden loss of such an amazing and special sole, I am hoping that I can help raise money for them so they can begin to heal without worrying about the financial burden of a month-long hospital stay, memorial expenses, etc. As we begin our life without Ms. Marcia, I try to remind myself of the truthful words of Dr. Seuss, “Don’t cry because its over, smile because it
happened”.
