Support the Malinoski Family while Dustin has heart surgery

Dustin is a 41 year old father to two beautiful young boys, 6 year old Dallas and 4 year old Bauer and a step-father to 15 year old Mykhailo. He is engaged to the love of his life and mother of his children, Larissa Sheehan. Back on Monday February 5th, 2024 he woke up with a massive pain in his chest going into his back. The pain intensified and he thought he may be having a heart attack. Larissa immediately called 9-1-1 and he headed to the hospital via ambulance. When he got there they ruled out heart attack but did a CT scan out of concern over the pain and high blood pressure Dustin was experiencing. When he returned from CT there were many doctors and nurses anxiously waiting for him. He had a Type B Aortic Dissection. In simple terms, he tore his aorta which is the large, cane-shaped vessel that delivers oxygen-rich blood to your body. The tear was extensive, from the top near the three vessels distributing blood to the upper extremities all the way into his legs. He was lucky to have gotten to the hospital when he did, as many do not survive. After being transferred to the ICU Dustin's health started deteriorating quickly. His kidneys began to shut down, he ended up on a bi-pap machine to help him breath and then he was flown to Toronto General Hospital for emergency surgery. After the surgery Dustin spent 10 days in the Cardiovascular ICU before being sent back home to the Thunder Bay Regional. Fast forward to November of this year. Dustin had a CT scan done that showed the initial repair was no longer working and that there was an opening causing a leak. He was told to await further instructions from his medical team. On November 26th, Dustin began to feel unwell and headed to the emergency room. The doctors immediately placed him in a trauma room, conducted a CT scan and confirmed the opening had gotten bigger and the leak more substantial. Dustin was then placed into the ICU while the medical staff made arrangements to have him flown back to Toronto to undergo a second operation but this time it would be an open chest surgery. Tomorrow Dustin will undergo a procedure to have a spinal drain inserted to prep him for his upcoming surgery scheduled for December 4th. The surgery will consist of the doctors cutting Dustin open from the front of his chest to his back and separating his ribs. It is expected that Dustin will be in the ICU for at least 10 days once the surgery is completed and will then be transferred back home to TBRHSC where he will have a very long road to recovery. Dustin and Larissa were still trying to come back financially from his first medical scare and the down time they both had from work while he recovered. Now, Larissa has had to leave her children behind in Thunder Bay to be with her partner in Toronto during this fight for his life. Hotel costs, meals, travel, and both parents being off of work while bills pile up at home is a hardship no one should endure during a difficult time like this. As friends of Larissa and Dustin's we are asking for any type of help to offset these costs and allow Dustin to recover and Larissa to focus on supporting Dustin through this medical journey. Lets help this wonderful family in their time of need. Thank you !
