Did you know, Malawi has fewer than 50 dentists serving a population of 22 million people?
Hello.
My name is Mya Musa, a 17-year-old student advocating for the importance of oral hygiene in impoverished areas.
I had stumbled across The MalDent Project after conducting some research about my home country, Malawi, in terms of dental care, a profession I aspire to find myself in.
The project aims to stress the importance of preventing oral and dental disease through developing a National Oral Health Policy for Malawi launched by the Ministry of Health in 2022. Several action plans have been carried out like oral health improvement programs in children and helping build the oral healthcare workforce my country desperately needs.
Another goal included establishing a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree programme at the University of Malawi College of Medicine, where the pathway to becoming a dentist in Malawi is now more accessible and encouraged in a country limited by poverty, limited resources and lack of local dental training- most dentists were trained and worked overseas thus creating an even greater barrier to access dental care.
Together, we can support the right to healthy gums and a general optimal well-being to children in Malawi. Every donation will be sent to the charity and will make a lasting difference.
Let The MalDent Project bring forth brighter smiles to every individual in my country today.
Thank you.
