The Makina Clinic Fundraiser

Donation protected

Hello Friends and Family,

Recently, my Dad and I took a trip to Kenya with our good friend, Chris Gardner. For the last five years, Chris and his wife Jolynn have been involved with an organization called MACODEP, which is a registered community organization that runs a children's home and a medical clinic in Nairobi, Kenya.

Their website describes the organization as follows: " MACODEP serves the residents of one of the largest slums in East Africa: Kibera. Kibera is home to over one million people who have little access to clean water, sanitation, healthcare, and other basic services. MACODEP's diverse and growing projects seek to address these needs. The main goals of MACODEP are to offer health care and other related services to the less fortunate members of society.  The organization is focused on improving the capacity of disadvantaged members of the Kibera slums via the provision of health care services, HIV/Aids intervention, environmental sanitation, and above all, economic empowerment. " Click here to visit their website

The reason I have created this GoFundMe is because it is clear this clinic is doing crucial work for the people of Kibera. The Kenyan government is requiring all clinics to possess the following medical equipment by January 2020. Below, I have included the equipment, as well as the estimated prices for these items in US dollars:

Five Digital Thermometers: $35.00
Blood Pressure Machine: $30.00
Portable Ultrasound Machine: $4,500.00
Adult Weighing Scale: $200.00
Infant Weighing Scale: $100.00
Height Board/Stadiometer: $100.00
Two Stethoscopes: $60.00
Fetoscope: $15.00
                                                               Estimated Total: $5,040.00

This is a tall order for a clinic located in an impoverished area of Nairobi, and my dad and I thought that our friends and family might be interested in helping make a huge difference this holiday season. If we are successful in raising the money, we promise photos of the new equipment at the clinic will be posted on this page as a follow-up. If you can't donate, please consider sharing this so your friends will see it too!

Thank you for reading, and happy holidays everyone!

The main consultation room, accessible from the waiting room of the clinic.

The Makina Clinic has a youth services room where young Kenyans can receive healthcare and confidential consultations geared towards their age group. This is a new and important addition to the clinic in recent years.

A sign we passed while walking through Kibera to the clinic.

A room where mothers in labor can come to deliver their babies, provided it is an uncomplicated birth. Hundreds of babies have been born in this room throughout the years.

A doctor sits at his desk in the clinic's consultation room. Some of the most pressing needs at this clinic are medical equipment to help monitor pregnancies.
