"It's the Painter, not the brush."
That may well be true, but making music can require some elegant "tools". Unfortunately, however, many concert quality instruments are cost-prohibitive for artists.
A concert grand marimba, worthy of the stage, ranges from $18,000 to $25,000 plus.
What makes an instrument worth so much? Mostly it's the quality of materials and the artistry of craftsmanship.
Just recently I found my dream instrument- a marimba designed by Keiko Abe , possibly the world's most famous marimbist- and the instrument happens to be right here in Illinois!
This is not just an instrument, but itself a piece of art.
Why am I so excited about this marimba, specifically?
This instrument is designed and built for a concert artist. My current instrument, though it has served me well, is limited in range and sound quality- it was designed as a "student model." Practically speaking, there are many pieces I simply can't perform on my current instrument because of its limitations.
But mostly, It's about the sound. Keiko Abe toured the world with this model of marimba and blessed her audiences with amazing music. It's my goal to do the same (though not around the world...YET! ; ) With this instrument I'll start sharing music right here outside of Chicago and in my neighborhood with my audience and students, and then build from there.
To purchase this instrument, however, I need your help!
Funds from the "Magnificent Marimba" Project will be used directly to help purchase this instrument.
Will you please be a part of my Magnificent Marimba Project?
Your support means the world to me. YOU can help me continue sharing the joy of music through the sound of a wonderful instrument. I CAN'T WAIT to showcase this marimba on stage.
Every gift counts.
I'd like to commission a special plaque to live with this instrument and engrave each of your names on it as a testament to your generosity and commitment to the arts. After all, to me this instrument is much more than simply a "tool;" it's a living piece of art.
Musically yours,
Zachary
