After a very beautiful and successful first year plus of programs with ‘The Magic Around Us’ I am very excited to begin again and with new projects, places and people.
The pandemic was rough on us all,
it made the first year and a half of classes difficult to execute but deeply important for the kids to participate in for myriad reasons. We were so lucky to have the Jumano Indian Nation visit with the kids here in Marfa. We also hosted a meaningful discussion with the Jumano leaders for adults in the community at ‘The Sentinel’ here in Marfa. We took beautiful field trips to explore ancient pictograph sites, we studied birds in the landscape, organized litter cleanup walks in the neighborhoods of Marfa and hosted a number of wonderful artists from our area to share their gifts with the kids.
I look forward to this fresh start and have some very exciting field trips planned for the coming season.
Beginning this September I was at the Transpecos Music Festival leading classes on the birds of prey in our area. These classes were a blend of nature and art and we will be revisiting this topic in the coming months.
In October we paid tribute to the memory of our dear friend Jeffrey Hester by painting the landscape that surrounds us here in the Big Bend region. These outdoor painting classes were held in Alpine, Texas to include more area children and their families.
In November I started a weekly percussion class at the Marfa Public Library, the first few classes have been incredible, this series will continue to grow and I have many exciting plans for the percussion group coming up.
I would be very grateful for your donation as it ensures that these classes can continue to be offered at no cost to the kids who participate and their families.
This work is deeply important to me and I
Thank you sincerely for donating,
