The Maelyn Vu - Richholt Warrior Fund

Our close friend and coworker Hien Vu and her husband Ryan Richholt recently gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Her name is Maelyn Erin and she was born May 10th, 2019.

 

During a routine checkup the doctors noticed something was wrong with Maelyn’s eyes. The doctors acted very fast and a few days later Ryan and Hien were told the awful news their baby has cancer. 

 

Maelyn was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma. Retinoblastoma is a rare form of cancer that rapidly develops from the immature cells of a retina, the light-detecting tissue of the eye. It is the most common primary malignant intraocular cancer in children, and it is almost exclusively found in young children.

 

The test results that were completed on Maelyn indicate  that cancer tumors are in both eyes. They started chemo immediately and the family spent a week in the hospital. Over the next 6 months Maelyn will continue her chemo treatment. Currently the doctors are trying to shrink the tumors in both of her eyes and perform laser surgery. They are very hopeful she will won’t lose vision in both of her eyes, but her left eye has very large tumors.

 

The expenses to treat this type of cancer have been mounting so we would like to kick off this GoFundMe account to help this young family with those expenses. The hospital bills and doctors’ bills will be very overwhelming. We are asking for donations to help the family get through this with one less thing to worry about. Any amount helps the family.
