TEACHERS HELPING TEACHERS!
Here at Madison Meadows Middle School the International Baccalaureate program is interwoven into the fabric of the curriculum . Part of the IB philosophy is the focus on the global experience and helping students to widen the lens of their community to see the world with empathy and appreciation.
In order to communicate this global understanding in the most efficient and innovative way possible, teachers and staff must be willing to experience professional development that would lend itself to imparting primary source information from the far reaches of the earth to the classroom. One such opportunity for professional development has been offered to staff members on our campus.
The Madison and Omuto Teaching Exchange will create an intercultural understanding and an exchange of professional ideas between the teachers of Meadows and the teachers of Omuto, in Uganda, Africa. Omuto is a Pre-K through high school campus in a rural setting about two hours east of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.
Mrs. Ritter (5th Grade Teacher), Ms. Coughlin (IB Coordinator), Ms. Bradshaw (8th Grade Teacher), and Ms. Schwalenberg (6th Grade Teacher) will travel to Uganda in the summer of 2019, while teachers from Omuto will travel to Phoenix during the 2019-2020 school year, sharing global awareness insights and applications of teaching methods along the way. Madison is working directly with TWK (Travel With Kids) Tours, a company that specialized in unique family travel experiences for kids and families, as well as their partners in Uganda, to arrange this trip for our teachers.
We are asking for half the cost for all the teachers trips ($10,000 + the GFM service charge). This includes airfare, airport transfers, and accommodations. Since travel commences in late June/early July 2019, we are hoping to get the funding settled by February 1, 2019.
