Join Us on Mikayla’s Journey

Hello from the Maclean family,

You may remember our sweet Mikayla from previous updates — or if you're new here, welcome, and thank you for joining us on her journey.

Mikayla is now 3 years old and thriving in preschool! She’s full of love and laughter, surrounded by a wonderful circle of family, friends, teachers, and community members who care deeply for her.

As many of you know, Mikayla was diagnosed with Vein of Galen Malformation before birth. During delivery, she suffered a stroke that led to further medical complications, including cerebral palsy. Over the past few years, she has bravely undergone three brain surgeries. For a time, her condition remained stable — but her most recent MRI has shown new changes.

As a result, Mikayla will undergo another brain surgery on May 27, 2025, at Foothills Hospital and Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary.

This is an incredibly difficult time for our family. While we prepare for her surgery and uncertain recovery period, we’re also navigating the challenges of being apart — as school and work continue for the rest of the family. We’re facing increased costs for travel, food, accommodations, and more as we support Mikayla through her recovery.
