I was a Lyft driver. In order to cooperate with my wife's day shift work schedule, I have to take care of our child in the day time. When she finished her shift at work, she took over the child care. I will then go to work at night shift as a Lyft driver. About two years ago, a very unfortunate incident happened to me.
It happened on March 31, 2019, and I drove to work as usual. When I was about to pick up the last passenger of the night, I picked up two passengers who seemed to be drunk. As a night driver, I sometimes encounter drunk customers. This is not the first time... and in order to avoid customer complaints, I cannot refuse to pick them up. I just hoped that they would not throw up in my car. But I never expected was that they attacked me on the way. One of the passengers sliced open my abdomen with a sharp weapon and caused a 14-inch wound, which caused my internal organs to leak out on the spot. At the same time, he also stabbed my left forearm and cut off my three main nerves.
After two years of treatment, the degree of recovery was much lower than expected. So far, my forearm and fingers have still lost consciousness and some of their mobility, and my muscles have also shrunk. I am being considered to be permanently disabled proof by the doctor. The injury to my abdomen prevented me from straightening up my upper body it is deformed and tilted, which brings great inconvenience to my movement.
In the same year, 2019, my father died of cancer. I even had a car accident on the way to treatment, which resulted in damage to the cervical spine. Everything happened in 2019. I was under tremendous physical and mental stress, and being unable to work for a long time also caused my financial problems.
I tried to return to work in February 2020, but due to my disabilities from the attack. I couldn't meet the employer's job requirements; coupled with the pandemic COVID-19, I lost my job, but I did not give up. In June 2020, I found another job, but due to my physical disability condition of my left hand and arm from the wound, I had an accident while controlling the machine at work. Unfortunately, my left hand was injured again, my left hand was dislocated and fractured, and my back was also injured. I lost my job again. At present, there is no way I can pick up a bottle of water with my left hand. I don't know when I can recover and if I will be able to recover.
Earlier this year, the Cucamonga Ranch Court had a verdict of my case, sentenced the criminals to prison. The case has ended. However, what happened in the past two years has made me impossible to return to a normal life, and it has also caused my family situation to be irreparable!
Although I am a Lyft driver and I was injured at work, until now, Lyft is unwilling to take any responsibility and unwilling to compensate me from this incident or care about my disability I incurred during my job with Lyft!
I am a hardworking American citizen who has always been law-abiding and has an eight-year-old son. Because I am currently unable to work and bear all my heavy medical expenses, I can no longer afford the high rents in California, so now I have to temporarily live at a relative's house in another state.
I really need financial assistance. I hope you can help me through this difficult time. The donations will be use in part for my son's future living expenses, and pay off the debt from medical expenses and other debts I owed in the past two years. In addition, if the money is enough, I hope to have another surgery on my left hand nerve to seek a breakthrough. Any amount would be appreciated. Everyone stays safe. Thank you very much.
