The Lyceum De Stoa

My name is Doctor Hoswell. I have an Hons degree in English Literature and Epistermology, a Bachelors degree in various subjects, a PhD in Philosophy and Coginitive Science and a Masters in Education, along with over ten years experience teaching in universities and the public education system.

What it is, right? You can't really do research in universities any more because they've turned in to office work paper degree mills. I saw the very last of it as I did my PhD. Most of the staff are adjuncted out and make like three hundred bucks a week, and can barely survive, or work second jobs, so they can not write papers or do research any more.

It's very hard for university professors to do the meeting-of-minds because their jobs are either full of administrative tasks, or they're so underfunded they're and working second and third jobs. There's not the leisure, space or capacity for people to develop ideas, read, ponder and do things that made universities powerhouses.

So all I want to do is create a free-standing stoa establishment where academics can come and stay for free, but they must teach one class, any class, of their choice per week and be researching something. The rest of the time is theirs to discuss ideas, read, research. A retreat for great minds. Artists, mathematicians, writers, poets, philosophers and even scientists can come to this retreat for space and clarity and somewhere to focus and discuss ideas. The facility will offer small numbers of residencies and as funding improves expand on these.

Anyone from the public can come and attend the classes being taught at the Lyceum De Stoa, and eventually they will be streamed live and free on the internet.

That's all there is to it. No other paperwork, no commitments, no marking, no paperwork degrees. Just a place for the meeting of the minds and where people can get free tuition in whatever is being taught. A place of learning and open horizon education.
