ABOUT ME AND THE HISTORY OF CREATION:
Hey! My name is Rebecca. I am an actress, clown and interdisciplinary performer from Germany and am currently based in Detmold, Germany.

The Lullaby of Joy is a one-woman-theatre show based on the same-name novella I wrote in December 2020. Inspired by the South American myth of the "Llorona" ("the weeping woman") and the famous song "La Llorona" this new fairy tale was born and sheds new light on the relationship between life and death.

In 2018, still studying acting at Zurich University of the Arts, I discovered the song and the myth of Llorona for the first time through a Mexican actor. Deeply touched by the music and its history, the longing grew to create a piece of theatre on this basis. From that moment on I became more and more immersed in Latin American culture, learning Spanish and exploring the character of the weeping woman in the years that followed. After completing my bachelor's degree, I traveled to Argentina and finally settled in Barcelona at the end of 2019 to continue my studies with Jango Edwards at the Nouveau Clown Institute.

After over four years of creative work and research, the resulting female solo piece is a visual, musical and comic-poetic portrait of a sensitive, independent and sensual woman.

It is my tribute to women of the present and past and a recognition of their emotional strength, selflessness, dedication and love for life.

JANGO EDWARDS
Jango Edwards (born Stanley Ted Edwards on April 15, 1950) is an American clown. Also known as the "King of Clowns", he revolutionized the history of humor from the mid-1970s with his very physical, sometimes rough stage performances. He is the founder of the "Nouveau Clown Family" - an international group of professional performers who, through his limitless passion and unique ability to connect people, initiated a worldwide network of so-called "Nouveau Clowns" over the past decades.

Jango has been living in Barcelona for 15 years, where he opened the Nouveau Clown Institute in 2008. Since then, along with other well-known performers, he has been passing on the knowledge he has gained over 50 years of work

HOW WILL THE FUNDS BE USED?
To complete the play, I need a budget of 7,000€ to finance the stage design (screen, beamer, shadow projections), costume/costume designer, sound recording and sound regulation and light. Also, we will need an intensive rehearsal period of 2-3 weeks and the rental of a small theatre for the premiere in 2024.
