The loss of Dylan

Hello everyone ….

So most of you know that my life is dedicated to saving and rescuing animals … this all started because my Mum and Grandma had a horse rescue centre set up and were helping as many as they could before I came along …. White horse stables horse rescue.

Years went by and lo and behold I followed in their footsteps - I not only have helped rescue the horses I now also take on farm animals and little fury ones too.

we had a fair few horses that we care for on a sanctuary basis as they were to abused/neglected to be able to be re homed.

This brings me to Dylan - he was rescued as a 3 year old - 30 years ago! He was rescued from an auction in the new forest by his previous owner - who soon realised couldn’t accommodate his needs due to lack of experience so it was either he came to us at white horse stables or he was going to be put to sleep at just 3 years old!

30 years later he had become so part of the family loved by so many - he taught so many people how to ride in our riding school and then had the most lovely retirement with his buddies when that closed. He’d faced a lot of things to over come and smashed it every time with being diagnosed with COPD to laminitis and managing to bounce back each time with love and care.

unfortunately on Sunday Dylan become poorly. He was showing signs of colic - now as any horse owner knows colic is one of the worst things to go through - the survival rate for a pony of his age was so low.

we tried all day with medications to relax his stomach and see if he could improve but unfortunately we just couldn’t get him better and had to make the horrible decision to put him to sleep.

i held his head and guided him down and cuddled him until his last breath.
I myself don’t know life without him.

it was heartbreaking and the yard is extremely empty without him.

yesterday we got the bill from the vets - due to out of hours and x3 attempts of medication and having him put to sleep it’s costing us £850!!

the problem is that’s a huge chunk of money and we still have so many mouths to feed! This time of year is the worst - increase in hay, feed bill especially with the fields being so wet and unable to be used at the moment.

so myself and friends are going to be doing a sponsored walk in his honour and to try raise the funds to cover his costs. We will be walking from the centre in Staplecross to rye harbour this is 14 miles of walking and we will be doing this on the 1st of march and documenting the entire journey so you can see personally my suffering haha

I hope we can raise as much as possible and would be so thankful for any donation or share this post far and wide.

thank you for reading and thank you for supporting. ❤️
