The Locklear Family - Kaylei

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Lauren - a close family friend to Angie and her family - stepping in to help raise prayers and financial support during this time for them.

The family first and foremost appreciates all of your prayers!

Angie and her four children currently live in FL. On December 12th, 2022 - Kaylei, her eldest daughter, was diagnosed with, what they thought was Leukemia.
UPDATE:
It’s been a long road and a lot for the family, which is why there hasn’t been many updates. They finally have some answers and direction for treatment at this time. After some medical mystery, Kaylei was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia - A rare condition in which the body stops producing enough new blood cells caused by damage to the bone marrow. Since then, she has also developed a fungal infection in her one lung (fungal pneumonia). Since December, she has been in and out of the hospital countless times.

Today, a CT scan was done to check the status of the fungal pneumonia, an EKG because of the increase on some of her medications, and they added an additional PICC line in her other arm. This evening (4/17) they started preventative antibiotics for tomorrow (4/18) when she will start chemotherapy. They are settled in her room for the next 4 weeks.

Here is a break down of the schedule going forward..
April 18th-20th she’ll receive Anti-Thymocyte Globulin (ATG)
April 21st-22nd she’ll receive Fludarabine and Cyclophosphamide (chemo)
April 23rd-25th she’ll receive just Fludarabine (chemo)
April 26th - she’ll have a Total Body Irradiation (radiation).

Tristen (Kaylei’s older brother) will also be donating his bone marrow on April 26th. They will take enough to be able to harvest it for later if needed. His recovery is 24 hour watch after procedure and then he’ll be sore for a few days.
April 27th will be infusion (transplant) day for Kaylei. This is not surgery, it will just go through her PICC line like she gets her platelets transfusion.

On April 3rd, the Doctors told them, Kaylei won’t win this war against the fungal infection and our only option at this point is to rush to transplant. They have been preparing the family that the hardest part will be the week after transplant. They have a room ready in ICU if it comes to that point, and we are praying it doesn’t. They went over all the risks they could battle since Kaylei is fighting with fungal pneumonia considering you shouldn’t have any infections going into transplant. At this point they do not have another option because her body can’t help fight the fungal infection in her lungs since her ANC is still zero. The fungal infection has already destroyed the lining of the bottom left part of her lung. The antibiotics that she is on is keeping it from getting worse.

At this time, to help cover the family, not only in prayer, I’m seeking help for them financially. Angie, Kaylei’s mother will be on FMLA with no pay. And due to many hospital stays has already used all of her vacation time. We know and trust our God, who is our great provider to cover them through this journey.

Thank you in advance for your prayers and support!

As we know more details and with their permission, I will update ❤️
