The Story behind the "The LLP Project"
I am fortunate enough to be the Auntie of 4 year old Anicka Ellah who is half Filipino and half Greek. She lives here in Wodonga with her father. The rest of her family live in a rural village called Tapaz in the Philippines. I have visited there a number of times and I am Tita (Auntie) Michelle to the rest of the family.
In October 2017 three of my nieces, who live in a fishing village at Lake Marugo (In Tapaz), went to bring the fishing nets in to collect fish for dinner. This is standard that the children work around the house to help the family. Princess, who was 8, slipped into the water and got into difficulties as she had no swimming / life saving skills at all. Leah and Lycil, her old sisters who were 12 and 14, jumped in to help her and also had no swimming skills. Unfortunately all of them drowned. 3 beautiful souls lost in one tragic accident.
I made a promise that I was not going to let this happen again - and so began The LLP Project (Leah, Lycil and Princess Project). I am going to be taking a team over to Tapaz to teach water safety / swimming lessons. I am initially aiming the lessons at Grade 3-6 at St Julian Elementary School - the school the girls went too and their beautiful sister, Leana Rose, attends. It is then hoped that they can help the younger children and we can focus on the Grades Kinder - 3 next time we visit.
I am hoping to get donations of swim suits for the children and donations to put towards airfares from local business and larger companies.
