The Liz Baker Renal Unit, Morriston Hospital

Hi all, I am running the London Marathon on Sunday April 27th and would like to raise money for The Liz Baker Renal Unit at Morriston Hospital.

My reason for choosing is because my best friend James Thomas became a patient there in July 2022. He had to adapt to a different way of life, relying upon the facility for 3 days a week over the next 2 years. Thankfully in November 2024 he received a life changing Donor transplant.

He has told me and others that if it wasn’t for the care, kindness and dedication of the wonderful staff who looked after him and many other patients like him he wouldn’t be where he is today.

James is a huge part of our running community in Maesteg and is also well known throughout many other running communities. He is one of the founders of The Old Parish running club (Yr Hen Blwyf) and has given so much of his own time to helping others start their running journeys, even though he was sometimes unwell himself (but would never admit it). He set up C25K where many attended and some have even gone on to run marathons.

James takes everything in his stride. He doesn't complain, he just gets on with it.

One thing I do know is that he will be forever grateful to The Liz Baker Renal Unit and its amazing staff.
