My name is Omar Elbasiony, and I’m directing a new short film called The Light That Keeps Us Apart , a story about love, isolation, and what it means to stay human when the world has stopped turning.
Set in a sun-scorched future, the film follows Layla and Danial, two people trapped inside their small flat while the world outside burns. When the voice of a dying stranger breaks through the silence, they must face a terrible choice: cling to safety, or risk everything for a connection that might already be lost.
This isn’t a film about the apocalypse , it’s about the quiet moments that come after. The small gestures, the unspoken fears, the ache of being close yet feeling worlds apart.
The story unfolds almost entirely in one location. We’re using light, sound, and performance to build an atmosphere that feels heavy, intimate, and real. Every flicker, every breath, every silence matters.
Your support will help us cover key production costs such as:
Camera and lighting equipment
Set design and props
Sound recording and design
Meals and transport for our cast and crew
Festival submissions
We’re a small independent team driven purely by passion and storytelling. Every donation, no matter the amount, goes directly into bringing this vision to life.
If you can’t contribute financially, simply sharing the campaign helps more than you know.
As a thank you, every supporter’s name will appear in the film’s credits.
Thank you for helping us make this story real.
