The Life of Frederick Zittel Jr

Hi, my name is Sarah, and Fred was my dad. He was suddenly taken from us on December 6th, 2023. This was completely unforeseen and no one was expecting it. Unfortunately there is no life insurance or funds to take care of the afterlife necessities and the family is in dire need of help from the community.

Fred was a really remarkable man. An artist, a basketball player, someone who could make you laugh no matter how sad you were feeling. He was really a funny guy and there's no one that can deny that. Ask anybody who knew him in the first thing they will mention is his sense of humor. He was also one of the kindest people you will ever meet. My mom will tell you stories about how he literally gave people the shirt off his back on the street. He was a devoted father who loved his children above all else and made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure that they were well provided for and well taken care of even if that meant not spending as much time with them as he wanted to. Everything he did was for them..

When we were living in northport, Long island, with our aunt, my dad made the trip out there on the train as often as he could to come and see us. He would bring us presents, play with us, tell us stories about his side of the family, and make sure that we were connected to his family. As we got older and could make the trip into Brooklyn we got introduced to his side of the family as well. It may not have been what we wanted in terms of the traditional nuclear family but my dad did his absolute best to make sure that we felt like a part of a family. He had his struggles, but he always made sure that we felt loved. And we did.

He always had the best stories about basketball games in Brooklyn and hijinx that he would get up to and some of his family stories were sad but he always tried to rise above all of that and let us know that we were the most important people in his life. Caitlin and I would like to honor our father the way he deserves to be honored, but unfortunately we don't have the funds to do that. We would like to show him the love that we feel for him now that we may not necessarily have been able to show him in life. Therefore we are asking for any help that anyone can offer.

We would like to give him the most dignified send-off as possible but unfortunately in this economy that costs money. We are not looking to throw an extravagant funeral, we are just looking to cover the costs of a simple service and cremation. Any donations that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

We are hoping to have the service on December 18th, but until we can get the funds together that is a tentative date we will keep you updated as things become more cohesive but for now the 18th is the date. We will let you know where and what time as details become available.

My dad had great love for all of his family. If you can't find it in your heart to donate, we would appreciate you spreading this fundraiser as far and wide as you can. Every little bit helps. Thank you so much for reading. Love,m The Zítttel Family
