Honouring Liam’s Life and Legacy, One Year On

On September 25th, 2024, I faced the devastating loss of my husband Liam while 32 weeks pregnant with our first child. Liam was a man of strength, kindness, and determination, always striving for more, whether on the rugby pitch, football field, or in his own personal challenges. His energy and spirit lit up every room, every pitch, and every team he was part of. His ability to unite people, inspire others, and face challenges head-on is a legacy that will live on forever.

To mark one year since his passing, and to celebrate his life in the way he would have loved, we are bringing everyone together for the Liam Canning Charity Cup on Saturday 27th September 2025 at Rossendale Sports Club.

The day will feature rugby and football games, family fun, and a community celebration, just as Liam would have wanted:

Liam Select vs Pendle Blues Reunion (Football)

Family fun day with bouncy castle, face painting, ice cream van, Ground Up food trailer and more.

Evening celebration with live music to keep Liam’s spirit alive through laughter, friendship, and togetherness.

All funds raised will go towards LooseHeadz (tackling the stigma around mental health in rugby) and the We Evolve Project (local charity founded by one of Liam’s close friends that uses physical fitness to support and improve mental health.) Both organisations are doing incredible work to make a real difference in people’s lives.

This day is not only about raising money but also about honouring Liam’s legacy, the friendships he built, the teams he loved, and the positive impact he had on everyone around him.
