Hi, my name is Matt Farver. I don't find the need to write much about myself within this message, but the GoFundMe platform strongly encouraged me to include a brief intro so people knew who was running the campaign. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to me directly and I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
If you aren't already aware, it pains me to inform you that Geoff Peoples passed away on March 21st beside his family in his hometown of Reidsville, NC. As I'm sure most of you know, Geoff had been in a brutal fight with cancer for the last several years and his body finally had enough. I visited with him in his last few days, and it was nothing short of heartbreaking to see him in so much pain and struggling to simply get air into his lungs. Losing a good friend hurts so much, but I know he was tired of fighting. I'm glad he was finally granted some relief and peace.
If you knew Geoff, you don't need me to tell you that he was probably the kindest, most selfless, loyal, happy-go-lucky person you'll ever meet. To add, he was one tough S.O.B. throughout his battle. Did Geoff have a single enemy in this world? I mean, he was the epitome of a "good-guy" and someone we should all strive to be more like. I can't make sense of it all or why this happened to such a good person. Personally, I have convinced myself that Geoff was just too good for this world and God called him in to serve a bigger purpose.
My goals here are simple. I want to take just a little bit of the burden from the family during this difficult time. I know there are large medical bills and final expenses that have accumulated. How nice would it be for us - his friends, colleagues, neighbors, classmates, teachers, and so on - to take just a little off their plate right now? It's about time that family caught a little break. If nothing else, I want them to know just how much Geoff was loved and highly thought of in his community. He was a staple around town. I think his family knows that, but let's prove that! Some of you have probably helped raise money for Geoff's fight in the past. For that, I know his family is already extremely grateful. I will ask today that you do it again.
I'm hoping I can get 100 people to donate $100 each. I don't want to take food off anyone's table, but if you are able, please consider being one of the army to help here. If you can't give $100, give what you can. If you want to give more, even better. And no matter if you give or not, PLEASE spread the word to anyone and everyone who knew Geoff. Geoff touched so many people but I'll need some help getting this message around to all of them. I sincerely ask that you make it a personal mission to help grow this effort and help me reach our goal. In fact, I hope we blow past my goal.
If we happen to surpass the goal, I will find another way to honor Geoff beyond just helping with bills. At a minimum, I'd pledge any overage to the fight against cancer. I really despise this cruel disease. At best, I'll find a better way to memorialize Geoff's spirit. Again, should you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me.
To those that donate or assist - thank you so much! It means a lot to me personally and I know the family will be forever grateful.
To Geoff - you may be gone, but you will never be forgotten. That grin (and historical afro!) will forever be ingrained in my heart and mind. We love you buddy!
