The LearnBox Project

The LearnBox  is an open-source all-in-one eLearning solution designed for places where power and internet are not always available. We are raising money to distribute 100 devices to 100 rural schools in Rwanda.

From 2016 to 2017, I was a Peace Corps Response volunteer in Ngoma, Rwanda. I volunteered to help a rural polytechnic build a student information system. While there, I saw the need for low-cost technologies that solved local challenges. When I returned I started designing a solution. In 2019 I designed the LearnBox and in 2020 we started testing it in Rwanda.

The LearnBox provides schools with a low-cost eLearning solution so they don't have to implement expensive high-speed internet connections and acquire internet dependent software platforms.

Budget Breakdown:

100 Devices @ $100.00 each = $10,000
Shipping and local delivery in Rwanda  = $6,000
Import taxes and fees = $4,000
Local training and one year of support services = $10,000
Administrative costs = $3,000

Total: $33,000
