The final chapter in my GRS journey

Hello Friends and Family,

I am writing today to reach out and ask for your financial assistance in the last stage of my transition from female to male.

For most of my life I knew I was in the wrong body, though it took until about six years ago to accept it. While Brenda and I were in the process of creating our family, I realized I was not going to be seen as a Dad, by my kids or anyone else. That was when it was very clear to me, that I needed to transition into the person I saw myself as- a man, Dad, husband, son, grandson, brother, nephew and so on. Thankfully, Brenda supported me in this decision and friends and family followed.

Since 2013 I have been on hormones and had several surgeries to have my body match who I really am, not the body I was born into.  There is one final surgery to make my transition complete.  It is called a metoidioplasty and it is a specialized procedure that I have waited two years for my approval.

The time has come and my surgery date is fast approaching - February 21st, 2018! To have costs for the surgery covered by MSP, I have to travel to Montreal to have it performed by Dr. Brassard https://www.grsmontreal.com/en/surgeons/dr-brassard.html

I recently was in treatment for mental health and addiction and this depleted all of my savings and the monies set aside for this surgery.

The surgery itself is covered by MSP, I have had a very generous family member pay for the flights and I am reaching out for help with the final $800 needed to make this a reality. I leave for Montreal on February 18th and hope to have reached my goal before I leave.

The costs are broken out as follows:
$150 - additional airfare/airport fees
$130 - 1 night hotel in Montreal
$120 - 1 night hotel in Edmonton
~ $200 in taxi fares in Montreal
~$200 for 4 days meals that are not included in my stay and travel days

I am one of the very fortunate Trans people who has had unconditional support from friends, family and coworkers since the beginning. Thanks to all who have read my story and have supported me through this journey. I am very grateful for any contribution you can make. I am so excited for this final part of my transition!

Kris

* If I happen to raise more money than my  goal of $800, I will gratefully put that towards money owed from the 3 months I spent in residential treatment last summer. That will help relieve more of my financial stress moving forward :)
