I started The Last Coal Mine in 2019 to spend time in coal communities and really listen — to the people who lived it, worked it, and built their lives around it.

From Wales to Appalachia, this project has always been self-funded and deeply personal. It’s not about nostalgia. It’s about understanding how work shapes identity, how towns change when industries disappear, and what resilience actually looks like on the ground.

Now I’m expanding the project to three new locations — one in Czechia and two in Poland — places I’ve identified to complement and balance the work so far.
