The Language of Hope & Courage at the Children’s Hospital at OU Medicine

Hello friends. Many of you know that I have worked on my contemporary hieroglyphic project for several years within a variety of communities, which has included participants of socioeconomic factors and ages ranging from 2 to 90 years old, homeless children, disabled, vision impaired, all ethnicities and races, and beyond. Now I I am working on a year-long project with the children and their families at the Children's Hospital at OU Medicine in Oklahoma City, empowering critically ill children as they experience the power of creative expression as part of the healing process. This is a wonderful and significant project, and to insure that it can grow, be properly documented, and exhibit in a variety of locations, I am asking for help from my friends and family. Will you please consider making a donation to our Go Fund Me page? For donations over $50, you will receive a small vinyl serigraph print from the project. For donations over $100 and $500, respectively, the sizes of the prints will be larger.  These prints will be from the hieroglyphs created in this project, and will include stories pertaining to them. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your support!

“The Language of Hope and Courage,” at the Children’s Hospital at OU Medicine in Oklahoma City,  is an interactive creative installation project that will empower critically ill children as they experience the power of creative expression as part of the healing process.   You donation will help share the incredible visual stories created by the precious children, their families, and medical teams.

Consider the impact and importance the process of creating visual expressions of hope and a healthy identity will have to the inherent well-being of these children and their ability to combat illness. Will it serve to maintain a sense of strength, worth, and courage? Will it improve the child’s outlook in their battle for life? Will it affect their ability to combat disease?    We believe in the power of this project.

The power of this project will be with the children.  There are so many stories to tell. By using a simple creative process of play and self-discovery, symbols will be made that will serve as representations of their identities. Each symbol, otherwise known as an identity glyph, will introduce you to a child, their family members or their medical team.  It will tell something about their own personal story; and it will represent a powerful story about the children at the Children’s Hospital.

Each symbol will range in meaning from character traits and tags, emotions, beliefs, aspirations, ideologies, and philosophies, to concepts, tools, and favorite objects. It will tell you about the children at The Children’s Hospital by giving you a creative guide to what is important to them, who and what they love, their favorite things and activities, and their hopes and dreams.

And finally,  the project will culminate in a creative touring installation that weaves together the stories about the unique identities of these precious children, their families and medical teams.  The symbolic identities and creative representations will be merged into a life-sized visual story installation about the amazing and indomitable inherent spirit of these children battling illness and disease.

The funds you provide will help pay for a documentary, supplies, and the manpower necessary by a group of individuals to create a lasting visual arts installation that will tour, and exhibit, the powerful story of critically ill children and the hope this project creates. With your help, this story will continue to grow and empower the arts.   Please join me and follow our story of “The Language of Hope and Courage.”  If you or your organization would like to host an interactive artful fundraiser, please contact me.
