Hi Friends and Family!
I wanted to reach out and share an update on my Mama, Belen Lanting Landicho. My 82 year old mama was born on December 24, 1938.
She is a retired Dietician Director of Food services for Nursing Homes. After living in NYC for 45 years she retired in 2007 to her homeland, Philippines.
On the morning of Sunday, May 11, 2020, Mother’s Day, my older sister, Tess took her to the Hospital. My Mom was unable to get up or walk on her own.
After hours of waiting, the doctors ordered blood work and a scan of her brain. This reveled she had a mild stroke. The left side of her body is dysfunctional, and she is unable to sit or stand on her own.
The next day the doctor noted Pneumonia in her chest x-ray. Because of her age and the recent COVID-19 pandemic, pneumonia is one of the indicators. She is considered a person under investigation for Corona Virus. They moved her into a isolation room for investigation.
The room and hospital bills are already exceeding $3500USD.
The bill will be expected to double, in the next 3-4 days (maybe longer). We are still awaiting the Covid-19 test results. Her walking abilities, have still not improved.
My family and I are worried her pension will not be enough to cover the bills fully. She does not have health insurance in Philippines. My other sister, Malou and I have done some research for a few Elder resource organizations. It seems unlikely given her situation, that they will be able to provide resources. The policy of most organizations is that they will only cover those residing in their area/country.
The only discount we are sure of is the senior citizen discount.
My family and I are asking for financial help. All the donations will go towards medical and Hospital bills. Some of you may have met my mom. She is a strong tough little Capricorn lady, always determined and on top of things. We all know how sad it can be to see a parent helpless. I am so far away but doesn’t mean I cannot help. We are praying that she will recover soon.
Thank you for all your prayers and well wishes.
