The Lahaina Community

Aloha my name is Keoni Vasquez owner of Urban Barbers of Maui and co owner of Lahaina Town Vape LLC born on the island of Maui and raised in Lahaina town. Yesterday what started as normal day aside from the 60-80 mph winds ended with our whole town burnt to the ground. I believe around 4:30ish a brushfire that started early that morning that was put out by Maui fire department flared up again broke out on the ocean side of the bypass right above my house causing a house to catch fire. Due to the strong winds another house caught fire. I left my house and by the time I got to the new subdivision near Kahoma stream kelawea street had already been grid lock causing people to leave their car to avoid the fires. By the time I got to the bypass my whole subdivision was in flames. In 1 hour the flames had already reached the bottom of front street causing everything to be leveled to the ground. I tried to walk back to get to my family but when I got to the aquatic center there was no way to get across as the fire was firing across the highway. As I made my way back up to the bypass I walk back towards Lahainaluna rd and entered a car that had been left on the side of the road to get across Lahainaluna rd By then Lahainaluna subdivision looked like an atomic bomb had went off. People were laying on my street where my house once stood. I’m raising whatever money I can to aid in the help the last of the people standing in my community.
