Hi, My names Samantha and I’m the sole caregiver for both my mother and daughter. My mom, Hope Korey, had a third degree burn in 2019 that required a skin graft. When she fell ill in August 2021 her abdomen began rapidly swelling which caused her skin graft to reject. She currently has a large open wound that requires astronomically priced medications, even with insurance, to aid in healing. If the medication can’t be purchased she will be required to rent a wound vac and undergo another skin graft. We have yet to find the cause of the swelling. We do know that there is a concern with her intestinal tract which causes painful contractions upon digestion and a vascular concern that must be addressed. 

My eight year old daughter Miley is autistic and has cerebral palsy along with a handful of other disabilities. Miley requires diapers, wipes, and countless other supplies daily. We discovered this week she will also will require glasses which was another unexpected expense.

In the coming weeks both of them will require multiple appointments. Hope will be seeing her wound doctor twice a week as well as frequent appointments with her gastroenterologist, rheumatologist, vascular surgeon, endocrinologist, and primary physician. Miley will be seeing her urologist, cardiologist, otorhinolaryngologist, genetic specialist, and primary physician.

I am employed through the state as Miley’s home health care provider. Miley is homeschooled due to her health conditions and frequent medical appointments. I am also currently playing the part of home health for my mother. Just prior to my mom becoming ill I started college to obtain my teaching degree, which leaves me with very limited time to attempt to pick up a side job and wouldn’t be allowed anyways under my current employment.

We are currently in a very scary situation financially and after trying desperately to figure out a solution I am using this platform as a last resort. I am so embarrassed to have to do this, but there is absolutely nothing I wouldn’t do for the two people relying on me.
