Hi I am Amy from Shellharbour City Basketball Association. In the early morning of the 18th September 2026, Katie and her children Zane and Zahli were suddenly woken by a neighbour banging on their door to get out, the house was on fire. Frantically Katie raised her sleeping children, grabbed the beloved family Labrador Bonnie and made a run for it.

An electrical fire started at the rear of house and despite the best efforts of the neighbours they couldn't stop it from spreading.

They have lost literally everything and need to start from scratch.

The Kitchen family are active members of Shellharbour City Basketball Association, with Katie coaching and volunteering, Zane playing including rep and Zahli playing and refereeing - our amazing community has already rallied behind them but we are asking the general community to please help this single mum and her amazing kids, to get back on their feet and resume some sort of normal life. They are always the first to help when others are in need, now it is there turn!

Funds will be used to support the family during the next 12 months whilst they rebuild their home, help purchase much needed school and sports supplies as well as reduce the financial stress and burden Katie is carrying.
