Hello - As you may have heard, Katie has been diagnosed with cervical cancer. This diagnosis came as a shock, and she and her family have been working together to deal with everything that it brings. The Kinslow family relies heavily on Katie's substitute teaching job. Most weeks, she subs 4-5 days, so it is like a full-time job. Katie has been unable to sub since her diagnosis on September 16th, and with surgery planned for October 18th, she won't be able to return to work for at least another 4 weeks.
As you can imagine, coming off the summer when she wasn't able to work, the holidays coming up, not having been able to work the majority of the school year thus far, and mounting medical bills, this has been stressful for her family. Katie's hope is to be able to return to work once she is healed from surgery, but depending on what the pathology comes back with, she could be looking at more extensive treatments, which will mean more time that she is unable to work and more medical bills.
Katie is a very active member of the community. She volunteers her time at both of her children's schools. She is the PTA president at Hickory Elementary, and she prides herself in giving one hundred percent to all she does. She is always there for anyone who is in need. Many have asked how they can help, so if you feel inclined, please consider making a donation to help Katie and her family get through this difficult time so she can focus on healing and getting back to the work she loves.
