Hello, my name is Jaimie Hughes and my family and I are reaching out to ask for help (with Kristen’s permission) for Joel, Kristen and their three beautiful girls. For those who are not aware, on 12/8 Joel suffered some sort of medical event that caused him to fall and hit his head on the pavement while he was pumping gas. He was transported to SMC where they determined he suffered a skull fracture. The fracture, along with a concerning low platelet count, led them to transport him to SUNY Upstate.

To borrow from Kristen’s Facebook post, “He is now stable at Upstate…He is not in any pain. He knows his name and is resting well under the care of a wonderful staff. The Dr’s are more concerned with the condition of his blood than his fracture. They have been doing many tests to monitor him and to figure out why he fell and why his platelets are low.“

Currently, the doctors do not have any firm answers as to what caused Joel to fall and what is causing his platelets to remain low. They have done many tests and are still waiting on results. Joel will be in the hospital for an unknown period of time and will be unable to work. Kristen has been driving back and forth to Syracuse for visitation and to be able to be home for the girls. This, along with medical bills and losing Joel’s income will no doubt create a financial hardship for this family, especially so close to Christmas.
