The key to unlock Usher Syndrome
Donation protected
Our boys are amongst those born with Usher Syndrome, which means they are born deaf and gradually develop Retinitis Pigmentosa (basically going blind)
While we are fortunate that the boys have had cochlear implants we dread the deterioration of their eyesight. Genetic and Stem Cell therapy have thus far shown the potential to remedy Retinitis Pigmentosa (which affects many people, not just those with Usher Syndrome) BUT
- the sophisticated equipment to research this costs +- $600000
- the annual cost of a researcher is +- $170000
We would like to raise funds towards research equipment and personnel so that the Lion's Eye Institute in Perth, Australia, can do further specific research in this direction, along with other eyesight related research.
