WE are excited to officially open the doors on our new fundraising Challenge A Mountain a month raising funds for the animals of Kathmandu. Hi I'm Kelly and this is my team mate Casey! We're climbing a mountain every month, and our final destination is Everest Base Camp! But this isn't just about the climb; it’s about helping the animals of Kathmandu. We will also participate in Volunteer work. Every dollar we raise goes directly to the KAT Centre, where they rescue and treat sick animals, provide vital spaying and neutering, and work tirelessly to promote animal welfare. We need your support to make a difference! Please like, comment, and share this post to spread the word and help us reach our goal. Together, we can make a real impact for these animals in need! You can follow our journey at https://www.facebook.com/HappyCatsBairnsdale/
The KAT Centre was registered as a non-profit, charitable animal welfare organization in 2003. KAT officially opened its doors on 9 May 2004 and it has grown steadily since then.
The goals of the Centre are
1/ To rescue and treat sick and injured animals living on the streets of Kathmandu.
2/ To lower the street dog (and cat) population by spaying and neutering.
3/ To reduce the incidence of rabies and other viruses through vaccination and education.
4/ To promote animal welfare in the widest sense of the term.
While the KAT Centre's primary purpose is humane Animal Birth Control (ABC) to reduce the street dog population, they also provide education, awareness, and prevention of Rabies, medical treatment to those that are sick and injured, and education to the public and animal adoptions.
Both Casey and I are Passionate animal lovers and will not only be raising vital funds we will also participate in volunteer work at the KAT Centre. We would be so grateful for you to share the journey with us making a difference to the lives of many animals in need at the KAT Centre.
*FUNDS RAISED WILL SUPPORT THE KAT CENTRE'S CURRENT PROJECTS**
**CATS**
The funds raised will help build a new cat hospital in the Kathmandu Valley. Cats often get less attention than street dogs here. KAT Centre Nepal has focused on caring for and adopting cats since it started. This new facility will help rescue and care for more cats than ever before. It will be the first large-scale cat hospital in Nepal, created with help from both Western and Nepalese experts.
**DOGS**
The funds for stray dogs will help treat Canine Transmissible Venereal Tumors (CTVT), a cancer that is spreading and causing suffering for many dogs in the area. About 7,500 dogs in the Kathmandu Valley are infected, yet 99% of them do not receive help. Treatment is simple and effective, and your support can save these dogs.
**COWS**
Stray and abandoned cows are a serious problem in Nepal. These cows often get left on the streets and face dangers like traffic. KAT Centre is using reflective collars to make the cows more visible and prevent accidents. This will also help track their health. Future plans to expand this project throughout the city to help protect these cows.
**RED PANDAS**
The population of red pandas has halved in the last 20 years, with only about 2,500 left in the wild. Stray dogs threaten their survival through attacks and diseases. KAT Centre aims to map stray dog populations that overlap with red panda habitats. Providing vaccinations and sterilizations to protect both the stray dogs and the endangered red pandas.
