Hello everyone! My name is Rachel Smith and I am Charles (Charlie) Kannaday’s younger sister. I am setting up this gofundme for my brother and his family, Charlie and Amy Kannaday and their children, Owen, Wesley & Kayliana. They are in desperate need of help in one of the most trying times of their lives.
As many of you know, Charlie was in a debilitating accident in April of 2020 while working in the Maintenance, Facility and Grounds department. The trauma caused a gastrointestinal perforation, which ultimately landed Charlie in the hospital for almost 30 days where he had multiple abdominal surgeries, endured a stoma procedure, and had a colostomy bag for 6 months with numerous complications, thank God he had just enough intestines left for a corrective surgery. After an extended period off work, Charlie returned to his position on light duty restrictions.
In August 2022 Charlie was informed by his job that they could no longer accommodate his light duty work restrictions and that they do not have any type of work for him. He was told he was not fired, but that he couldn’t come back to work….leaving the Kannaday family abruptly without an income.
A little back story: Charlie has worked for the district for the last 4 years. His wife, Amy, has been a teacher at the same district for the last 6 years. The kids have attended the district for the majority of their educational career and participate in many sports and clubs/organizations. The Kannaday family plays a very active role in the Lansing community.
During the acute period when Charlie was healing from his injury he missed a lot of work. Once he returned to work, he frequently missed work due to medical appointments or complications from surgeries. Charlie is still receiving ongoing medical care due to injury complications; he is currently not being allowed to work.
All the while, the cost of life has been compounding and the family is financially drained (along with emotionally and physically). They are unable to keep up on the ongoing monthly expenses of a family of 5. Amy’s income alone just isn’t enough to support them. With Charlie not being allowed to work they are at the end of their rope. They have exhausted all of their resources and family has helped as much as they can. They are transcending in the direction of having to sell their home and living with family.
Now for the plea, I’m asking for your help in raising money to help this family pay bills. As the saying goes, it takes a village, right?! I’m calling on that village to raise this family up in their time of need. Your support, in any denomination, is appreciated! Thank you for your help!
