Ryo Iwabuchi
Beloved Son, Husband, Father, and Friend
Survived by Wife Carolyn Wildman-Iwabuchi and Daughter Misa Iwabushi.
Most people knew Ryo as the amazing Sushi chef at a Tampa based sushi bar called Kaisen Sushi. Ryo devoted more then 25 years to his craft and ob-aided by traditional japanese sushi standards. Kaisen was a small sushi bar that valued quality over profit and it showed in not only the spectacular cuisine but it also reflected in the people who gathered there.
As a former member of the Kaisen team who had grown to become an extended family, I know that I met many amazing people, both as customers and as my fellow coworkers. Kaisen was truly a special place and it was a reflection of the person who owned it, because it was the environment that he created that allowed us to enjoy our time there. It breaks my heart to know that the restaurant is going through a hard time. This has been a very large part of our lives and I know I speak for the Kaisen family that we are so appreciative of everyones love and support not only these past few days since his passing but also the last 25 years that you have all supported us.
We are making this fund to help support the family who is like my own in these hard times. Ryo left us in a vulnerable position and we could not imagine the restaurant without him but there is his family to think about and Kaisen is their only form of income. This fund will not only help pay for the funeral and memorial costs but also help Carolyn and Misa get through the next few months as they try to find a regular routine in their lives. There are many obstacles to overcome in the near future and I hope to help them with at least the financial situation at home and with the restaurant.
We appreciate anything that you have to offer and I know many of you will be keeping in contact with us. Please feel free to come to us for anything. Family is family, whether Kaisen is open or not we will always be there in some sense.
Addition:
Hello all! I know some of you are curious as to who I am. Most of you know me as just Liz, Tony's (former kaisen sushi chef) little sister. Some of you may also remember Thierry, whom was a waiter there for quite some time and more currently our baby sister Rosie. :D The Ku family considers Ryo, Carolyn, and Misa family because literally all four of us have worked and grown with Kaisen. I started this fund on behalf of Carolyn and Misa, who have more on their plates the they can handle. Your donations will be used to help Carolyn and Misa to get back on their feet and for anything relating to the memorial service for Ryo, which is currently being finalized. Thank you all so much for loving this family and Kaisen as much as I do.
