Kai needs our help!

Our dear friend, Kai Schoenhals, was in a serious motorcycle accident in Honduras on April 3. Kai veered suddenly to avoid a young boy who had jumped into the street.  Thankfully the child was unharmed; unfortunately, Kai was not. He and broke his tibia and fibula, the bone punching through the skin.   

Kai was rushed to a small hospital in Coxen Hole, Honduras, stacked “toe-to-toe” with 10 other patients in one big room.  Conditions in this hospital are quite basic and far from sterile. The bathroom is not regularly cleaned and toilet paper is BYO!

Doctors mean well but don’t have the skills or equipment to handle something like this.  There is major risk of infection and Kai's friends have been scouring the island for supplies for him—even basic items like Ace bandages need to be brought in. Kai has already undergone surgery but will likely need additional procedures. 

This is a critical situation for Kai. We are working to get him out of the country and to proper medical care in the United States. Once in the US, his prior surgeries will need to be assessed and his doctors there will generate a plan for plan for potential corrective surgery, in-home nursing care, physical therapy, and rehabilitation. It will be a long rehabilitation, at least three months.

Kai needs our help.  From surgery to plane flights, to medical supplies, to rehab, there are many significant expenses. Let's all help Kai get back on his feet—literally and figuratively.
