The Ka'Mauri Harrison Support Fund

Donation protected
The Ka'Mauri Harrison Support Fund is being established to raise funding to support the Harrison family during this incredibly difficult time. In addition to what has now happened, the family was already struggling financially as a result of COVID, as one of many families during these uncertain times. The Harrison Family is a family of seven and Ka'Mauri shares a set of bunk-beds with two of his younger brothers. All five kids are in the Jefferson Parish Public School System.

The Harrison Family is hopeful to raise enough money to support the family and give his family the ability to make a choice as to where Ka'Mauri goes to school and, if necessary, his legal defense to appeal this decision,  and clear his record of an "on-campus weapons violation," for having a BB gun spotted on camera while take a virtual instruction exam . The Harrison Family would like to take Ka'Mauri out of the Jefferson Parish School System but unfortunately, the family does not have the means to do so.

On September 23, 2020, 9 year old Ka'Mauri Harrison received a six day suspension and social work assessment requirement as a result of a BB gun appearing in the screen of his Virtual Classroom while he was taking a Diagnostic Assessment in his home.  As stated, Ka'Mauri shares a bedroom with two of his brothers. During his test, while the computer was on mute, Ka'Mauri's yonger brother, age 8, tripped on an unloaded BB gun that was in their shared bedroom. Ka'Mauri picked up the BB gun and moved it out of his brother's way (he thought he was doing the right thing) and went back to taking his exam. What came next was a recommendation for expulsion pursuant to the Jefferson Parish School System "Weapons on Campus" policy. After a Hearing, Ka'Mauri received a 6 day suspension (with credit for time served) and a requirement to undergo a social work assessment. The Harrison Family was forced to file a Temporary Restraining Order against the Jefferson Parish School System to prevent any further government intrusion (a social work assessment order) into their home.

In the wake of these uncertain times in 2020, in the middle of this Pandemic, parents are forced to make the difficult decision to keep their children in Distance Learning or to send them back to school. The Harrison Family made the decision to keep their children in Distance Learning, what they did not understand was that they were opening their home to the review of the Jefferson Parish School System.  They believe their privacy rights have been violated.  Parents, during this unprecedented and trying time, should not be required to turn their homes into government approved classrooms, especially when they cannot afford to do so.

Ka'Mauri is one of the Harrison Family's five children in the Jefferson Parish School System. Any remaining funds not needed to support the Family directly and Ka'Mauri's education, will be used to benefit the other children's academic and scholastic pursuits.
