Performances for Kids in Uvalde, Texas
Led by Express Children's Theatre, a coalition of four arts organizations in Houston, Texas plans to bring their unique bilingual performances to the kids of Uvalde, Texas, just one week before the first anniversary of the tragedy that occurred there on May 24, 2022. Please help us bring joy and excitement to kids during what will otherwise be a very intense time for them.
Working with the Parent Teacher Organization of Uvalde, Express Children's Theatre is organizing the tour with art partners from Ars Lyrica Houston, Mercury Chamber Orchestra and Houston Metropolitan Dance Center. Two mental health professionals who specialize in coping with trauma will also accompany the tour, pro bono. Fourteen people in all will make the 5-hour drive from Houston to Uvalde on May 14, 2023 and on the morning of May 15, perform their shows multiple times for about 4000 kids in elementary schools around town. Then everyone will drive back.
While the PTO of Uvalde has offered to cover some expenses, we want them to use their money for other necessary services for their kids. Our aim is to independently raise enough money to cover gas, overnight hotel stays, meals and stipends for the artists.
A leader in Houston's performing arts landscape since 1991, Express Children's Theatre has a mission is to create and perform professional, culturally diverse performing arts and education for Texas children and their families. Read more at expresstheate.com.
