The Joy Fund for Sybil, Alan and Reece
Donation protected
I met Sybil in 1991, when I went to college at UPS and she was one of the amazing swimmers on my team. I was not. I mean, I was a swimmer, but far from amazing. I was usually last. But Sybil? Damn. She moved with the water in such a way that makes little kids want to grow up to be mermaids.
I'm not Sybil's closest friend. I haven't seen her since 1993 when I left UPS. But we have been Facebook buds for years. I was always blown away by her accomplishments, and when she first posted about her diagnosis I took a deep breath and moved on. I couldn't read it. She was probably the healthiest and strongest person I had met in my life! She couldn't possibly be sick. But she was, and only about eight months later, I was too. So, I put on my big-girl-panties and watched her story develop. I watched her friends pour love all over her, and I took that example and opened up about my cancer. Sybil showed me how. She's a leader like that.
After I finished some of my treatment, I took a short vacation during which I found myself unable to share photos because I felt guilty spending money that people had raised for me. My medical bills were huge. But also, I needed something different than cancer for a bit. A friend told me, just share them! We all just want you to be happy, we don't care what you spend the money on. That's what motivated me to create this:
A Joy Fund.
We all want to see Sybil happy. We want to see Reece and Alan happy, too! So, please consider either sharing with them here (money will go directly to them - not me) or via the Venmo that is posted on the Celebrate Sybil! page. Venmo is great because no funds are taken out, but this site is incredible on ease of use and visibility. So, do what works.
Sybil has a LOT of friends. She could use distractions from her treatment, even if that's just dinner, or Alan getting a massage, or Reece having a movie night. This family could use a boost and I think that we all are the humans to do it. Let's support JOY in their lives! Let them do as they wish with the funds. Money doesn't make the world go round, love does. But money helps.
