Hi,my name is Hilmy Shawwal I am T54 Wheelchair racer, a huge Newcastle United fan and I just wanted to share my story with you.
I have always loved wheelchair racing since I was 8/9 years old competing in many athletics events (London Youth Games and Panathlon events in my day chair) which I was always put forward to do for my borough Ealing and my school John Chilton School but was inspired even more by David Weir’s incredible performances at the London 2012 Paralympics which from that moment onwards I knew that wheelchair racing is the sport that I wanted and taste as much success i can possibly achieve so in November 2012 I attended a talent ID camp at Brunel University which I was spotted by Kingston and Poly AC which in 2013 became Weir Archer Academy which brings me to 5th of April I competed in my 1st ever race which was the 100m at the Weir Archer Fitness and Athletics centre and have not looked back since which was lead to David Weir actually being my mentor and being coached by the legend herself Jenny Archer . Receiving a junior GB vest to go to compete in the 2016 IWAS World Junior Games in Prague, coming in 3rd in the 100m. Since this moment I have gone to Paris in 2017,Switzerland in 2018 before going back to Switzerland this year in what was the best racing year of my life in terms of my performances and being in a very good place.
In order to i keep up the same level of training and compete at the top level, I now need to upgrade my racing wheelchair. I can only push and motivate myself to the highest limit i can possibly reach but my racing wheelchair is a whole different situation. My current racing wheelchair has been with me now for over a 4 years, going into the 5th year. A new racing chair will mean a huge growth in my performances which would be so amazing for me in achieving my next goal.
Racing wheelchairs are extremely expensive so it can be really hard for so many athletes get their own unique racing wheelchairs. I know the target is huge but for me I would be more than grateful for your support whether it's donating or sharing this everywhere you can.
Thank you so much
Hilmy
