Vernon and I/Lynn (and family) would like to share a story with you of the faith and perseverance of Eric, Mona, Gabby and Aubree Vann, precious members of our family.
The Story of Eric “Bubba” Vann
On May 6, 2017, after a flag football game and a pretty bad busted lip, Eric decided it was necessary to head to the ER where he received news that changed his life forever (so he thought). He was told by the ER doctor that his blood testing results were not good, and that he was already at LEVEL FOUR kidney failure. Almost immediately he had to start dialysis, at the age of 28. This news was devastating, and changed his life, his wife, Mona’s life, and the lives of their 2 young daughters, Gabby and Aubree. Thus began a journey of faith, prayer, hope and never stop believing that, in God’s time, He would provide and bless Eric with a donor. Being believers was all he and Mona had to hold on to and that was strength enough for them. Vernon and I have so much admiration for Eric and we committed ourselves to be available to them whenever they needed us.
Today, traveling this journey as a family, we have watched Eric endure dialysis three times per week – some days early in the morning, before arriving at work and others days heading off to dialysis directly after work. Many times Eric kissing his girls in the morning, knowing he would not be seeing them before bed time for a good night kiss. We have watched Eric being admitted to the hospital, time and time again, as the least little bug would put him down for days. We have watched him always make his wife, daughters and personal obligations a priority regardless of how he was feeling. Any of you who have experienced dialysis know exactly what that feels like.
We have watched Eric and Mona become a God-fearing couple, serving the Lord without question, without complaint, serving others in the midst of their storm and never wavering from their FAITH that our Lord God would bless Eric with a kidney. We have watched Mona become the backbone of her family, as she continued her life priorities, never even asking “WHY did this happen?” - knowing the devil wanted her to be ungrateful of God’s daily blessings. We have watched Mona as she daily makes her declaration to not allow the devil’s stronghold to diminish her thoughts in any way, her daily walk, her daily prayers, and her social media post after post after post, always asking for prayer warriors to stand in the gap with her and Eric and asking for continued and fervent prayer. Continuously asking God’s hedge of protection over Eric and their girls – she is a true woman of God!
Glory hallelujah - that day has arrived – June 11, 2019!
Eric’s best friend, Matt Harris, has offered to be a kidney donor for Eric and after months and months of testing he is a match! Matt felt the selfless call of God to step up and offer Eric, who is like a brother to him, an opportunity to live his life and watch his daughters (whom Matt considers his own nieces) grow up to become young women, wiping tears, helping with homework, enjoying cheer and sports and eventually walking them down the wedding aisle, a moment of pride for any father. Matt has given him another chance - a brotherhood indescribable. We know our God is able and sufficient. We give thanks for Matt Harris, every single day and asking for continued prayer for him as well.
As we all know, medical procedures are expensive, and not surprising, during this journey, Eric and Mona have been challenged by a myriad of medical bills. For the surgery alone, they will have to pay, out of pocket up to $10,000 including all additional post costs and additional doctor expenses, which is well over any discretionary monies they have been able to save, with all the expenses already incurred. Also, Eric will be out of work for at least two months. Eric and Mona have never complained and have never asked for a dime from anyone. Rather than ask for money, they have been working FOUR JOBS between them to keep their household afloat. We are kindly asking for any donation your heart feels appropriate, to help Eric and Mona with the large medical deductible, household expenses and family obligations.
One day I hope they will share their testimony of their journey of faith, sacrifice, belief, love for the Lord and NEVER feeling sorry for themselves and give us all opportunity for reflection on how being steadfast and obedient believers of THE WORD makes us winners! We have truly learned a lot from them. Some of their favorite scriptures are: Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest and 1 Thessalonians: 17 Always be joyful. Never stop praying.
Vernon and I have personally walked this journey with Eric, Mona and their precious daughters, experiencing the joys of grandparent life in a way we have never imagined. We would humbly appreciate any heartfelt donations toward this long road of recovery for our beloved, Eric, Mona and our sweet girls, Gabby and Aubree. We have learned that in giving God your weaknesses, he will be your strength.
In Jesus name, please keep Eric Vann and Matt Harris in your prayers during their surgery, recovery and healing process, as having prayer warriors is a GIFT in itself. Graciously and humbly we give thanks for each and every one of you. Vernon and Lynn (Charla) (PopPop and Nana). To God Be The Glory always!
